Why does every digital camera--even the one on my smartphone--insist on storing photographs in a folder called DCIM?
You have probably wondered at some point why the folder on your digital camera or smartphone where your photos are stored is named "DCIM" (Digital Camera Images). The answer isn't as complicated as you may think. It comes down to standards. Every time you plug in your device, i.e. smart phone or digital camera, it automatically looks for a folder named DCIM. The allows seamless compatibility between your computer and your camera, also speeding along the process by not having to scan the device to find your pictures.
To view your DCIM folder and your photos go into "My Computer", find your device and open it, then click on the DCIM folder and there you have it!
